Transformed by a Tusk

The story for this comic book came to live after Pamela Peeters joined Dr. Martin Nweeia on a real Narwhal expedition to Pond inlet, Canada. She accompanied him on several boat and camping trips with Inuit fishermen and was able to see hundreds of Narwhals on two occasions: a life changing moment! Spending time away in extreme remote areas with just three other expedition members offered a lot of time for many great conversations on a range of topics that included Narwhal knowledge, storytelling, climate change, the shipping industry and the story of the first “Eco Hero” graphic novel began to unfold.

The book invites the reader to dive into an Arctic adventure with the magical Eco Hero and become a part of a 1000 year old legend that involves a Narwhal, an accomplished scientist and an Inuit community. The story blends science, traditional knowledge, folklore, mystery, adventure, magic and the fantastic drawings by Rafael Munoz make it an unforgettable read!

The publication matches academy objectives and is complemented with a teachers’ manual and classroom materials. It is suitable for PK, K6-12 and is available at select locations, several museum shops, school libraries, environmental clubs and educational initiatives.
